Keeping up with the Joneses
Should I feel bad that even though I’ve had my Galaxy S2 for only 6 months, when its replacement arrives (or not in this case) I see my phone in a totally different light? Before I saw the new S3, I was 100% happy with my S2, it’s by far the best smartphone I’ve owned and in my opinion, Android is far superior to iOS 4 on the iPhone.
So why do I feel like this when I’ve not even used an S3? It’s nothing to do with what people think, I couldn’t care less about whether I’ve got the latest, coolest gadget or not, in fact, I’m a sucker for old skool retro devices. So much so that I recently bought a phone cover that makes it look like a cassette tape.
I think the real reason might be something to do with my obsession with user experience and usability. Designing and building websites all day means I’m constantly thinking about how interfaces work and feel, how they affect the user, whether they encourage conversion etc. So when a new version of my already brilliant phone comes out, there’s a little part of my brain that makes me think I’m missing out. I’ll have to look into whether I can upgrade Android on my S2 to the same version the S3 uses…
