The Project Brief
Alpina Raggi is a market leader in the production of nipples and spokes for bicycles and motorcycles. As evidence of their spirit of innovation, in 2005 the company patented an innovative Tubeless System that allows the creation of spoked wheels for motorcycles without an inner tube. The brand Alpina became synonymous with high quality and reliability even in the most demanding off-road racing events.
Alpina is a global brand and we were contacted by the UK distributor Alpina UK (now King Wheels) to create a brand new eCommerce site for their Worldwide market. The existing Alpina UK site wasn’t responsive so displayed poorly on mobile devices and was very time consuming for the owner to manage and for customers to navigate.
This one was right up our street as Tim, our online manager, is an avid Supermoto racer so knows Alpina wheels and the motorcycle world well – he is Alpina’s target market in fact. He got to work on the concept for the home page and nailed it at his first attempt with great feedback from the client. We then created a child theme from the brilliant Storefront by WooThemes and got the site looking and feeling just right. A lot of time and effort was put into making the wheel ordering process intuitive to maximise online sales. We also wrote bespoke code to enable specific discount functionality which wasn’t available out of the box.
Responsive Web Design
Designing and creating a custom homepage and header/footer combination for our Storefront child theme was an absolute pleasure and we’re really happy with the results.
This was a mammoth task as each bike has numerous wheel configurations and colour combinations to offer as well as multi-currency and bulk discounts.
With no existing extension up to the job in stepped our developer and several hundred lines of code later the site knows what level of discount to apply automatically.
